A couple of years ago I was in Silver Plume, and the bakery was open.

I went in there and mentioned "You know, there's a really nice model

railroad kit for this building. Someone referred to it as the

'never-open bakery'; I'm glad to catch you open so I can see the

interior." Boy, did she get irate over that comment! But in maybe

10 trips to Silver Plume, it's been open twice. Products are good,

though, when they have been open.

I have visited Silver Plume a few times also, and never found it open. I

owned a bakery for eleven inglorious months in Denver, and from that

experience I would guess that they probably are busy with wholesale

accounts-groceries and restaurants and the like, and maybe don't concentrate

on retail sales. Sure makes a fine subject to model though. Actually, the

WHOLE TOWN would make a fine subject to model. Seems as though I saw some

photos online detailing a modeler's very fine efforts at recreating Silver

Plume...

When I was there in Aug 2004, they have a model (in a display case) that

someone built in HO scale and gave to the owner.

The baked goods are superb and make it a point to stop by whenever going by

on I-70.
