Greetings Jim,

Wait until you have all of your track layed and wired. Once painted,

soldering wires to painted rail will be difficult if not impossible. Colors

could be med grey to brownish grey, dk brown to a rust color, any

variation of dk brown, grey, to charcoal. Make sure to clean top

surface of rail immediately after painting. Paint comes off easiest

then!

Just my 2 cents worth.

Subject: Weathering track

I am at the point in my layout where I can start laying my track. I

want to paint my track. Is it better to paint the track before I

lay it or wait until it is all laid and wired? There is no scenery

on the layout yet.

I would appreciate any advice on colors for the rails. I am

modeling the 40's . 50's era.

Thanks,

Jim
