Re: [TV_Antennas] Re: Fort Myers - WINK 11.1 No Reception

Just moved to Fort Myers, setup my coat hanger antenna. I receive all the available channels except one (WINK 11.1 - CBS). Researching this channel frequency on the web, it appears that this channel is part of the VHF high and that the coat hanger antenna won't pick up this station. My question to this group, is this true? , what recommendation do you have in modifying my coat hanger antenna to receive this station? Thanks in advance.

To help you it would be easier to have a tvfool.com to see what your

signals are at your home.

You can do this and not give up your home address, just don't put

anything that will be descriptive of that in your title.

It will give you a link to share so we can see your tvfool.com report.

You can also go to www.digitalhome.ca

www.digitalhome.ca/> and get alot of information on better

antennas than the "coat hanger" antenna.

There are better designs of bowtie antennas on that website forum under

" Antenna Research & Development".

Included in this post is the link from TVfool, which shows that I should be able to recieve this station with an indoor antenna. If this station is broacasting on 11.1 isn't that frequency in the high VHF band? Making it impossible to receive this channel with the bowtie antenna?

Its not impossible to receive it on a bowtie antenna but its harder than if you had a VHF antenna. .Also, TVfool accounts for terrain but may not account for interference from trees and buildings. .You may have additional interference TVfool isnt accounting for.

I've had TVfool tell me I should be able to pick up a station that I never get but I'm surrounded by a forest of trees.

VHF high needs a bigger (longer) element. If you can find aset of

Rabbit ears, try them pulled out and as close to horizintal as you can

get to see if you can find ANY signal strength.

WINK's broadcast frequency is on ch 9 186-192 Mhz not ch 11 after the DTV transition it gets very confusing stations are still using there old channel assignments as part of there station ID even though most of the stations changed there actual bradcast frequencies. For intstance in my town the station that was on ch 7 still uses ".Local 7 " as it's station ID but it is now broadcasting on ch 28. and the station that was on ch 25 is now on ch 7 but still uses ch 25 in there station ID..A good resource is to go the TV Fool.com do a search for the station then click on FCC Database query to tell you the actual broadcast frequency. I hope this helps.

Are you using a single bowtie indoors?

WINK is real channel 9 which is VHF-hi.

You could construct a folded dipole for that channel or better yet a yagi.

Then if you have a uni-directional antenna you would point it at 42 degrees.

I don't really understand why your not receiving that channel, a 3 or 4

element yagi should do good.

Oh you could try constructing one of these antennas.
