A little off-topic, but the s/w does APRS

And a large European presence here

K6RPT-11 left the Rhode Island coast 5 hours ago heading 101* @ 160mph

Beaconing on 144.39 (US APRS) give a listen; link to their site;

Should have thought of this when I turned in last night.

Looks like it's off the coast of Morocco as of now.Made good time in the last 24 hours.

You know how projects like this wind up though, probwill fall into the Mediterranean...:-P

It was moving at almost 150 mph, so its clipping right along.

Im just curious, how did it report mid-atlantic? Not many APRS stationsto put it up on the Internet out there.

I do not know if many european stations KNOW that the baloon is coming to us

... problem is that we have a different aprs qrg ... and so only a few will

monitor it (those who know it *g*)

Yup; Why I'd sent ithere, Technologically Savvy and VHF contacts on thecontinent. Really not too manycoverage gaps. The blog says the GPS may be Solar Only bynow.Veering up toPortugal/ Spain, nowReal cool! and myNon-Ham friends think so, too. Just shows you Never Know 73 DE Matt,  NM1S, T2

I spread this round the local APRS/Ham community, andthe interest was immediate. I guess no one had any idea it was up. Ididn't till I saw the posts here. Are they going to let it just go, orbring it down once it makes landfall?

Seems as this is really a new record :-) congrats!!

Now next time investigate the higher winds a bit better and start on a day

were it would travel a bit north of this route ...



Yepp ... only gaps were absolutely no ham is hi hi



Any chance for recovery of this record balloon???



It has to get a place in a museum



First homebrewed unmanned "spacecraft" that made it over the whole north

American continent and over the pond to Mediterranean sea
