Re: Request to speed up 'Destination Path' dialog in Sequence Tab

Hi,

The destination path selection dialog for sequences is taking

several minutes to come up. I may be the only one having trouble

with this - there are over 8 million files on my machine. Other

file system dialog boxes, such as Save and Load, are almost

instantaneous, and I am at a loss to understand why this one is so

sluggish. I am running v4.06 on a 3GHz P4 machine with 2GB memory,

so I wouldn't think its inadaquate.

I wish to second Peter's request. My system takes about 30 seconds to

bring up the dialog box - not awful but annoying.

Regards

Gary

You aren't the only one. If I try to change the path images get saved to, it

can take several minutes, during which Maxim is essentially locked up. This

didn't happen with the previous version. It looks an awful lot like a

network problem, where some non-existent network path is being tried, and

has to eventually time out. It is probably system dependent, but I haven't

found anything odd on my machine, no errors in the log or anything like

that, and I don't have any problems with file dialogs hanging this way in

other apps.

Guys,

I run XP pro at work and I see this behavior fairly often. Typically a

server is overloaded and is slow to respond. At least that is the

conclusion I have reached. Does this occur without network drives involved?

In my case, I am on a network, but no network drives are mapped as drive

letters. One or more machines that are normally attached to the network may

be disconnected when I'm using Maxim. However, when this problem occurs,

both the previous path and the one that is being selected are on the local

machine.

The problem is not consistent- I just tried it now and there was no delay. I

don't know if that's because all my network machines are currently attached,

or if it is something else. I'll try again a little later when the

observatory machine goes offline (it shuts off every day at sunset).

I think it's a Windows XP thing. I see it all the time at work, and could

easily attribute it to a slow server. However, I have four network shares

on my Linux box here at home, and sometimes I see it here as well, even

though the Linux server is never very busy.

Hi all,

Yes, I too find that dialogue very slow, it is by far the slowest of

any file selection dialogue in any of the applications I use, (it

takes about 30 seconds to initialise). I will run some diagnostics on

my PC this evening to see if I can find out what it is doing.

Regards, Peter

My PC is an Athlon 1800XP with 1Gb RAM, 80Gb and 200Gb disks running

XP SP2.
