I have a licensed MaximDL Pro subscription and want to know if there is a yearly fee to stay current and what that price might be. I did go to their site and put in my serial number but of course there was an error and it directed me to their forum. It is a simple question but nowhere on the net can I find the answer to this simple question????

Without jumping through many hoops is there an answer to this question??

No there.s no annual subscription. You should post this question on the MaximDL support website. They have differing pricing depending upon how far back you are, which version you have, etc. as far as I can tell.It.s a little elaborate but the only way is to put in your serial number and they send you and email. Check your spam folder, it could be there. The last timeI wanted to upgrade from 6.11 to 6.13 it was just under 200 bucks,it was the same price to go from 5.24 to 6.00 . they gave out free upgrades as far as 6.11 where I am now sitting.

Iagree with Ross on everything except his "No" regarding annualsubscription. But maybe Ross considers it an "Extension" instead of a"subscription."Irecently purchased a 1 yr. extension. It's atwo-step process. 1)Launch MaxImDL and click on HELP and then CHECK FOR UPDATES. If yourlicense is current, you'll get a message telling you so and whether or notthere's a later version available. If there's a later version there's abutton to click to download the latest version.2) Ifyour license has expired you'll be sent an Email message informing youofthe various options for renewing it -- along withcosts.Woody

Thanks Ross

I was just checking my subscriptions to see where I stand with check book in hand.

Two weeks ago I had a system crash and am in the process of reinstalling everything. Win 10 somehow got corrupted and even though I went through all options nothing could resurrect Lazarus.

A friend asked me why I did not have a Raid Configuration with two drives which I did just install, now, but my failure was the corruption of the operating system from which I could not recover so Raid would not have helped as it is just a cloned copy of the two drives.

I will not make that mistake again, "once bitten twice shy". This time I will make an image of everything. The only good part was that all drivers and firmware as well as a fresh installation The Sky is up to date.

Thanks again.

The information is now provided immediately; there's no email step anymore.

If you got an error, you may have used an old license instead of your current

one. It's the most common mistake.

Good point regarding which license number. I've made that mistake in

the past. But I think if you get to MaxImDL's subscription page through

the HELP menu of your current version, then it's all automatic and you

can't put in the wrong S/N.

I have a weekly image backup. Raid is a waste of money IMHO.I don.t have a situation where losing a few days of stuff would really bother me.Rgrds-Ross From: MaxImDL@yahoogroups.com [mailto:MaxImDL@yahoogroups.com]

I agree. Just having a spare drive on hand and the image would be much faster. Gary From: MaxImDL@yahoogroups.com [mailto:MaxImDL@yahoogroups.com] Sent: Tuesday, February 7, 2017 10:00 PMTo: MaxImDL@yahoogroups.comSubject: RE: [MaxImDL] Renewal of Maxim

If I remember correctly, to renew the subscription was $75 last time they emailed me. With all the problems of version 666 and over $700 invested in the program, I said to hell with it and went with SGP for $99 and none of the silly subscription b.s.

#61334 Feb 9 8:08 AM

Thanks for all the replies. I, having a Paramount ME, naturally gravitate to The Sky X and of course use Direct Guide although I cut my teeth on guiding with Maxim. Using Maxim.s .Record. feature to automate processes is a nice feature and I cannot live without their Information screen which I use to analyze seeing/focus and roundness. One area however that I personally see as Maxims Achilles Heel is the lack of a sufficient number of in depth tutorials on all aspects of calibration and guiding and such. There is a plethora of videos from many sources such as OPT and other groups regarding other post processing programs and the recent appearance of a growing number tutorials on The Sky, T-Point and such which has really helped to hone my skills. Recently I purchased PixInsight and it looks really good but because of my system failure I had to put it on the back burner. There are features in Maxim that I use that other programs do not offer so renewing as opposed to dumping is an option that I am exploring, that is the whole thrust of my starting this thread. Because I lost all my configurations and installs I am in the process of deciding just what I need and not cluttering up my drives with programs I probably will not use. I have a bad habit of installing everything and never using it. I tell myself that I will one day but never do usually so there is a need to go lightly on the drivers, programs etc.. The minute I get my system up to a useable state I will make an image. Since I have multiple computers I am going to use those other computers for non-astronomy related programs and that includes MS Office and other such programs. I will have a lean, mean, astrophotography processing machine. Keeping your computer. programs to a minimum and backing up that configuration will go a long way towards having the ability to do a very clean re-install to rid yourself of the thousands of files and folders and drivers that are left behind when you remove programs you no longer use. Because of other things going on I have not been able to finish my reinstall but at this point all hardware is communicating with The Sky nicely and the latest ASCOM install went flawlessly and seems to work. I only have to transfer my customized configuration files and that will be done. Lastly my current version of Maxim and PixInsight install then back to gathering subs. Cyanogen has been very helpful in telling me what I need to do to get the information I need and for that I am grateful but I have not gotten back to them because of many things going on but will do so in a week or so, probably sooner.. I do have Ver. 6.??? but until I dig up my saved email concerning the latest purchased version I will just have to take a pause with restoring my system completely. It seems that all programs offer some feature or another that others do not hence the need for many rather than just one. There are some features that all of us have been accustomed to that are .just too hard to part with so one size fits all just does not work in most cases. Thanks to everyone for all your help it is appreciated. I think the funeral for my system failure is just about over. LOL LOL I will say this though in closing. If you have not, at the very least, made a restore point or an image of you complete main hard drive, you like me, are very foolish and are asking for trouble. Windows 10 can do both so why not take the time to do it and store the .image. on another drive somewhere? I have heard but not verified that Acronis is capable of doing a copy of your syste from one computer to another even though the computers might not be exactly the same but like I said I have not verified this. It is better to be safe than sorry! I worked for a very long time to customize The Sky, get all equipment updated with the latest firmware and drivers, had all my programs tweaked as far as settings goes, and finally got it all working almost flawlessly only to be put back at square one. We all know there are a myriad of settings in all programs that are arrived at through nights of working through them. The year has been very bad as far as having very good nights to collect subs here in Arizona. I was right in the midst of gathering good data on several objects in a stretch of 6 days that I had not seen in quite a while only to have my computer shut down. A word to the wise is sufficient! GaryCarpe Noctem From: MaxImDL@yahoogroups.com [mailto:MaxImDL@yahoogroups.com] Sent: Thursday, February 9, 2017 5:17 AMTo: MaxImDL@yahoogroups.comSubject: [MaxImDL] Re: Renewal of Maxim
