Just wanted to post a report on my attempt to operate my ST-7 & GT-1

remotely. SUCCESS!!!

Unfortunately, I could only test inside. As you would expect, after

the purchase of equipment to remotely control the GT-1, ST-7, AO-7 &

CFW-8. It immediately began to cloud up. I hope to get some actual

usage under the stars tomorrow night.

A few facts regarding the equipment:

All networking equipment is LinkSys wireless equipment.

1. Etherfast wireless Accesspoint + Cable/DSL Router with 4-port

switch used as the hub.

2. 10/100 Compact USB network adapter for my desktop to wireless

router (Remote software - PCAnywhere 9.0). Also running The Sky -

Level 4 and Maxim DL/CCD Ver 3.4.

3. Wireless USB network adapter for the Gateway SOLO laptop (running

the same software as the desktop.

The GT-1 & Gateway SOLO laptop were placed approximately 50 ft. from

the wireless router and desktop and obtained an excellent signal.

From the Desktop, I was able to command slews from The Sky and from

within the telescope control tab of Maxim DL/CCD.I was able to

operate the CFW-8 & AO-7 from within Maxim DL/CCD as well.

My previous message concerned control using an MX7-C. I've since sold

that camera and have tested only with the ST-7, AO-7 & CFW-8 with

Maxim DL/CCD and The Sky. I did connect to the GT-1 & ST-7, etc. with

AstroArt, however some commands were non-responsive. A little more

work is needed there. I expect that it can be made to work.

I'll update the group after first light with the wireless system.

The next hurdle is to obtain another laptop, reconfigure the wireless

router to operate with it and take the entire system to a dark sky

site.

I am using a laptop serving as host, connected to a GT-1. I've been

successful in operating the GT-1 from The Sky IV ver 5. When remotely

controlling from another laptop, does The Sky also have to be Level

IV or will it work properly using Level II (which is currently on my

other laptop)?

My understanding is that you need to have Sky Level IV version 5 (and

Orchestrate) in order to get ActiveX support.
