Hi all

Weird behavoir from my calibration process today. Shooting M27, I have

a series of LRGB frames which I have a clean set of Bias, Darks, and

Flats for calibration.

LGB frames all calibrate correctly but the Red frames go from a good,

clean background average count of about 2900 to 0 when I calibrate. I

have redone the Red flats but for some reason, the problem persists.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Bob

Robert,

Are you using the "caliberate all" and "set caliberation" feature? If

you are when you enter flats into the caliberation setup you have to

be absolutely sure that the lower window does not have any darks

showing. It happened to me and i was getting same problem.

try caliberating Red light manually and pick only one flat and one

dark as an experiment. If it works then above advice will work.

otherwise onto new flats make sure the flats do not go over 20000 adu

best regards

Arun Mehta

Hi Arun

I agree, the weather is perfect. I'm suffering from sleep depravation

caturing photons each night. Feel asleep last night when I sat down

in the house between periodic focus checks! Darn!

I am using the calibrate all and set calibration features as normal

but just noticed while processing a LRGB run on M27 that my "RED"

calibrated frames have been processed internally in MaxIm incorrectly

somehow.

If I only load Red Flats and BIAS, no problems, as soon as I load the

DARKs, the processed Images end up with a "0" background.

SO, going back and looking at the ADU, I am averaging 29,000 and

30,000 on all my flats, LRGB. I can re-shoot the flats, no problem

there but I have always aimed for 30K.

I think there is something else going on here.

Cheers and have fun again tonight.

The old adage, Garbage in, Garbage out applies here. I checked my 10

minute darks are found that they are not very good. I took them one

morning earlier this week and it looks like there was some light

leakage in while capturing.

I brought in some 3 minute darks to see if they work and they do. I

will shoot some new 10 minute darks when the clouds float in later this

week.

My appologies.

Probably a bad calibration frame in the set somewhere. Try turning off groups

until the problem goes away. Then examine the file(s) in the problem group to

make sure the image and header looks sane.

Hi Doug

Did just that and traced back to my 10 minute darks. I did my darks

from 5am on-wards the other morning and it looks like my image train

has some light leaks even with the cover plate on the end of the

scope.

I'll do new ones once the clouds come back. Meanwhile, I'll keep

capturing photons till this great run of clear weather runs out.

Sure is nice to have such good weather for a change.

Cheers

Ah. That would do it!

No kidding. I'm not getting much sleep this long weekend.
