Hi,

I am using MaximDL V5.07 on Windows XP for camera control asI have been for many years. My observatory computer is connected via cat5 lineto my office computer. When using Autosave, the images are saved to the officecomputer. Just a few weeks ago a weird issue cropped up that I am hopingsomeone can offer some assistance.

My camera is an SBIG ST9Xe. When taking a series of imagesusing Autosave, all will work well for awhile and then Maxim freezes up as itis Reading an image (.Reading. appears in box to the left of the Start button). The Stop button and other buttons are frozen and I must close the programcompletely. But when I click on the MaximDL icon to restart the program, itwill not restart. I must shut the computer down and restart the computer to getback to imaging. There is no set number of images that trigger this.. I have had it occur after about 15 images andas many as 60 images. Sometimes it will not happen at all in an observingsession.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening and whatI might try to rectify this?

Thanks,

Keith

If USB is involved anywhere in your data path, start there. Replace the hub. If that doesn't work, replace the cables. If that doesn't work, then look elsewhere. But in my experience, these strange freak problems are almost always something going wonky in USB-land.

Sounds reasonable, Tim. I will give that a try. Thanks.

KeithIt's possible you have a communications (network) issue between your observatory computer and your office computer. It could be hardware such as a bad cable, cable plug or a bad hub. Try reconfiguring Maxim to auto save to the observatory computer and see if that works reliably. If so, you can then trouble shoot the network problem.Don A
