RE: [MaxImDL] Quatech Parallel for SBIG

I have a quatech parallel card. I've been through all the old msgs

about how to configure it. And they make sense. Unfortunately, I'm in

the same boat as some others. My newer laptop cannot allow the quatech

to live at the traditional I/O ports addresses. (no bios control,

non-movable system goo over H278, et al.) H400 is the lowest port it

can live at. I see that the same port had been found by other quatech

users in the past. Any chance of adding H400 as a valid Parallel port

address? Or does this request need to go to SBIG?

You'd have to talk to SBIG, but I really think you're out of luck on that one.

Windows XP has blocked all ISA-bus addresses except for the three standard

parallel port addresses, and the interface would have to be rewritten to support

a parallel port in the PCI bus range. SBIG hasn't done that - nor has any other

camera manufacturer - probably because they switched to USB long ago, and

they're not going to invest a lot of engineering to support an obsolete model.

They do however offer USB upgrades.

Hi Bob,

Not yet. They do look like they know what they are doing. I'm pretty

sure that it's the laptop vendors that are messing me up. They are

using the classic ports for other things. Extra ports exist, but not at

the traditional addresses. Quatech will place itself in lots of places,

but the SBIG/MaxIm interfaces can not go to these new places.

Today's setup: at home a long haul parallel link to a desktop machine in

the house, in the field an older laptop with a native parallel port. If

the older laptop breaks befor a new camera is available, then I'll have

to get clever. It would be nice to decommission the older laptop on

purpose, so I will call Quatech before I give up.
