Re: Pulse Guiding via ASCOM Direct - Connection Q's

I've recently started using the pulse guiding option in MaxImDL to guide my scope (10" RCX on Paramount MX controlled by TheSkyX Pro). When I start MaxImDL, a little popup alert shows for about 2 seconds telling me that MaxImDl is connecting to my mount - obviously needed for later guiding.

In MaxImDL's Observatory panel, I can connect to my mount via The Sky Controlled Telescope, but the connection is not made automatically on MaxImDL startup. Is this connection required for the pulse guiding to linked to the mount?

If I take the implied meaning of the little temporary popup alert (which looks like it succeeds in making the guiding connection), the Observatory Panel -> Telescope connection ISN'T explicitly needed for functional pulse guiding.

Can Doug, or anyone, confirm that the Observatory/Telescope link is separate from, and not required for, proper pulse guiding connection? That's how it appears to me, but I'd like to have other input.

Hi Doug,

I'd prefer to manually connect the scope to MaxIm for now. Its just that the popup alert doesn't tell me whether it succeeds or not - it just lets me know its connecting and disappears... a bit confusing.

At any rate, when I see the alert I immediately go to the observ panel and make the telescope connection by hand, but wasn't sure if that step was necessary or not. Thanks!
