Re: Problems with ST-5 Autoguiding

Hi ,

I am using an old ST-5 (serial port) as a guiding camera. In Maxim 2.12. and

3.x I have always the problem

with horizontal white bars occuring occasional while the camera is in

guiding mode.

This leads to a misguiding up to +-12 Pixels.

I read in a bugfix list of CCDOPS 5.x, that this problem has been solved

already in the CCDOPS release earlier. I was using the latest SBIG driver

set in Maxim 3.x.

Can you pls help.

Best regards / mit freundlichen Gr.ssen

I've not heard about this one. The camera is obsolete and unavailable though,

so supporting it is difficult. I've contacted SBIG to see if they can explain

what the problem is. If the fix is simple then I'm sure we can sort it out.

Any news on this, Doug?

Thanks in advance.

You were saying that SBIG had reportedly fixed a problem with ST-5 support in

CCDOPS that might also be present in MaxIm. This is not the case. SBIG fixed a

minor glitch with the ST-5C parallel port camera, not the older ST-5 serial port

camera.

The ST-5 was obsoleted many years ago. The driver we wrote was done using a

customer's camera that was loaned for a couple of weeks, but that was a one-time

thing. There's not much we can do without having a camera in-house (even if the

problem is indeed in our driver and not the camera).

If you are occasionally getting a bad image resulting in mis-guiding, might I

suggest you try setting the Max Move (Guide Tab / Settings / More) to a low

value; that way any such pertubation would be minimized.

Thanks a lot, Doug. Sounds pragmatic and feasable.
