Re: [MaxImDL] Problems with Pinpoint Astrometry

Hi All,

I have a couple of problems using the the Pinpoint astrometry function

in the trial version of Maxim/DL (ver 4.54). Firstly the results are

non-deterministic, each successive run produces a different result

often failing on one run and succeeding on another. However if Maxim

is exited and the process started again the exact same sequence of

results is obtained. So it is deterministic from the begining of the

execution of the whole of Maxim.

My guess is that there is an autotune variable somewhere that is not

reset at the start of each run and hence affects the results each

time. Reloading the software would reset it back to the default value.

The seconf problem is that the scrolling result window freezes after a

large number of iterations even though the RA and Dec display is still

changing. It doesn't appear to of crashed as it usually comes up with

a "no stars match" dialog box. I suspect the output could be hitting

the 64k character limit on a standard text box...

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Dave Hawkes

I've had similar situations with your first comment. I find it either solves instantly, or sometimes within 3 or 4 iterations, any more than that, it will not solve, and just runs. I also have found different results with the same image, though not drastically, usually less than 100mm on the focal length.
