Hi everyone,

I'm considering a purchase of MaxIm DL Pro Suite, but would like to hear input from anyone that is using a RCX400, DSI IIIC or Starlight Xpress Lodestar. I was hoping that I could run the RCX, DSI and guide with the Lodestar as well as dither and use MaxPoint. I do understand that focusing the RCX with software is an issue all around. Are there any other issues I should be aware of or preparations I should make before making the purchase? Also, I've used the trial, but I had other issues with the scope at the time and couldn't really get good testing in.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

We usually allow people a second trial period; contact our technical support for

assistance with that.

Thanks Doug. That would be great. I'll contact tech support and see what is required.

Still, if anyone has any suggestions on setting up with the equipment I've listed, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

MIke,

You will not be able to autofocus the RCX400 with MaxImDL or any other commercially available software. What some are doing is adding a focuser that will accurately respond to autofocus commands onto the visual back of the RCX400 and setting the RCX400 corrector plate to an optimum position that will wotk with the added focuser. Thanks to a lot of available back-fccus, this workaround seems to work pretty well. That is what I am doing with mine. You still will need to collimate with the handbox or remote handbox using Meade firmware/software. This and the tragically anemic RCX400 fork support arms are the primary reason that the RCX400 is a relatively poor choice for astrophotography/photometry in spite of its exceptional optics.
