Can the Polar Axis Correction be used successfully in isolation (after an

alignment model is created) or is the use -- before any alignment modeling

is done -- of the polar align assist a prerequisite to PAC?

Yes--just build the model by additional aligns and run the PAC. One thing

to note, though, is to make sure that the A,E values "stabilize". I've

found that if values continue to change that you can end up "chasing your

tail". Usually 4-5 on one side of the meridian and 3 on the other work

rather well.



BTW--also make sure that you've selected a star that's really close to

meridian and 0 Dec. I usually shoot for something between +/- 2 degrees

Dec. and within a few minutes of the meridian.
