Good morning.

Has anyone tried to interface a PocketPC-based GPS with the Gemini?

Can it be done? I have an HP iPaq 5450 running the SkyPE, but I'd

like to add a GPS capability for more accurate lat/long placement.

I'm having a hard time determining if any of the PocketPC-based GPS

systems (such as the Space Machine PocketMap Navigator ) will 'talk'

to other devices through the iPaq's serial port....

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Clear skies to you.

Cheers,

I have sort of kind of done this, the long way around. I have a Garmin etrex

GPS that I connect to the Gemini on power up. After the Gemini does its

thing, I replace the GPS with my IPaq 5450 and run PocketSky. Works no

problem and is a blast at star parties.

Craig,

I'm using Pharos GPS setup. I bought the PF023 kit and the CA002

serial cable assembly. The kit is modular so I can use the GPS

receiver for navigation with my iPaq as either a CF card or as a

cable plug-in. The serial cable assembly allows me to plug the GPS

receiver directly into the Gemini box (no iPaq needed) and the other

end of the cable plugs into the 12V battery. I do this before I

setup the mount/scope, so by the time I'm ready to power on the

Gemini it has acquired the position and time info and I'm ready to go.

Hope this helps.
