Hi folks, here are the results from my new guidescope:
8 20 minute exposures on my Vixen R200SS, 8" f4 newt, old fuji 400 superia, hazy
and light polluted conditions.
I was using an Orion STR80 refractor with my st4 and had inconsistent tracking,
thanks to this list and Paul Sterngold and decided to try a barlow, when that
improved the tracking I went to an 80mm F11 guidescope...perfect tracking.
Previously I had blamed flexure internal to the scope, but it just turned out
that I had insufficient focal length to guide with..oh well, many opportunities
for good pictures wasted.
So the moral of this story is not to assume you know the cause of your problems.
BTW, one advantage to a good guidescope is that focus is very easy, the st4
peaks very suddenly and cleanly..
