Floyd,

Was the pinion glued or just pressed so tight that it wouldn't come off

without using the vice? If it was glued, wouldn't acetone helped?

Thanks.

Hi,

My pinions came right off, but Rod had a big problem with them.

Looks like mine were glued too, a pinion puller popped them no problem.

Hi Mark,

That is good to hear. Sounds like maybe Rod's experience might be the

exception to the rule.

I think that the pullers work very well, but the vice method will get

them off if necessary.

It seems that most people are reporting better results after the

gearbox mods are performed. This is great because it is one of the

least expensive mods to do and the gearboxes were the weakest part of

the system in my opinion. Maybe one day Losmandy will see the light

and put in better ones. But for now it is good DIY project.

Hi Floyd,

Sorry to be so negative but Losmandy is sitting in the dark looking

for some light bulbs :-) VBG>

Hi Floyd,

Now a serious comment. If Losmandy would have followed in the last 4

months all what has happened now and seeing the results now a G11 with

a cost of US $ 3,200.00 (no tripod) or US $ 3,700.00 (with tripod) and

both with GoTo (for me the best GoTO on the market) now delivers more

or less a PE less then 5" regularly, he could have incested in all

the known upgrades, raise the mount by let me say US $ 900.00 he would

beat even the mounts for US $ 7,000.00 or more in the same weight

capacity.

...

Food for thought ...

He can easily let machine the one piece wormblock for a lower cost

then Ovision and MB ... because he runs by far a higher production

quantity.

. Still searching for the Flashlight ? :-))) VBG>

I believe that Scott has his own agenda and has no intention of making

major changes, so it is up to the end user to find the solutions,

which is what we have been doing. That is fine with me really, it

makes my G-11 that much more special. :^)

I'm just guessing but I suspect that might infringe on his Titan

sales.

Hi Bill,

Today I removed the motors and installed gaskets. They seemed to help

the DEC a bit, but not too much change with the RA. The Dec is now

quieter than the RA. :^) It used to be more noisy.

But, both are pretty quiet really, but I may try the spare gearbox i

bought on the RA to see if it is quieter or not at a later date.

Really it is not noisy and I think I can live with it.

Floyd.

The gasket material used can make a big difference in how well it

transmits sound. I tried a plastic material and it was much louder

then went back to the rubber. By the way, one last point is to be

careful when tightening the screws that attach the motor to the

gearbox as that can bend the thin wall of the gearbox. Just needs to

be fairly snug to hold it on securely.

Bill
