Re: [Losmandy_users] PAS allen wrench size

Help. This is not a Losmandy question but hope that all will forgive me. Last week I received a PAS for my LX200 from JMI that is the same as the Losmandy PAS except that it has a tube that is bolted to the fork arm of a LX200. After spending hours getting the tube mounted and aligned found out that when I rotate the PAS to align the stars the center of the PAS reticle transcribes a circle about 1 1/2 degrees. Obviously the reticle was never aligned. I have sent emails to JMI and they have not answered. Does anyone know what size of allen wrench is required to align the reticle, where it can be found, and if there are procedures for aligning the reticle?

thanks,

Dan

Thanks. Any idea as to where I can get one of these. As to the procedure. Somewhere I saw a write up on how to align the Losmandy PAS but I can't remember whose website it was on. The best that I can remember is that the small tube portion of the PAS placed in a board or block with a V with a clamp to hold it in place. The PAS was slowly rotated and the reticle was adjusted until the center of the reticle did not circumscribe a circle.

You can order the 0.035" hex wrench from McMaster-Carr

www.mcmaster.com for only 16 cents. I think it would be a good

idea if Losmandy would just ship one of those with each PAS. I

have ordered two PAS and both of them needed to be centered

aligned.

Jim,

Thanks for the info. It is hard to believe that some store in my area (as big as it is) would not carry these small Allen wrenches but I have called and went to every store that I could think of (even the hobby stores). I took a look at the web page you sent and they have a lot of very good choices. The one I like but it is more expensive is the one that is shaped like a miniature screw driver with rotating top. A lot more expensive at $4.00 each but may be much easier to handle with my clumsy hands. Yep, you would think that they would send an Allen wrench with each one with instructions.

Jim,

I ordered a small set of allen wrenches from Mcmaster-Carr. Received them in only a couple of days. Worked on aligning the reticle over the weekend. It is not perfect but a lot closer than when I got it. thanks,
