Hi

Does any one knows why its impossible to use CTCSS on while in receive mode?

Ive tried that thru Chirp and also manually, the same situation.

thank you

I don't recommend using receive CTCSS but it is available to use and it does work.

You most likely are misunderstanding a CHIRP setting. You might visit.www.miklor.com/uv5r/ and look at the CHIRP reference.

If that doesn't work, tell us how are you setting up for CTCSS receive using CHIRP and then maybe we can advise you?

Izzy, it's not impossible. But the problem is, not all repeaters retransmit the tone. Receive CTCSS is used to unsquelch the receiver so that it will respond to the repeater, but not to other repeaters, or other RF noise in the area.

If you have a receive tone set, and your repeater does not transmit a tone, then you will not hear anything from that repeater. This is how it is supposed to work.

Setting receive CTCSS works perfectly. It generally isn't advised because

it is rarely useful and does prevent successful scanning, but SETTING the

receive CTCSS works fine.

It doesnt provide a solution. The radio is not permitting to put on CTCSS on reception (on Simplex). Even when trying to manually program the radio, it doesnt keep the "on" position From: baofeng_uv5r@yahoogroups.com [mailto:baofeng_uv5r@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of JohnSent: Saturday, November 10, 2012 3:25 AMTo: baofeng_uv5r@yahoogroups.comSubject: [baofeng_uv5r] Re: CTCSS on Receive

Izzy,

You appear to be missing a programming step. You can't just turn on R-CTCS and T-CTCS. They have to have their values programmed into the desired channel along with the RX and TX frequency.

In VFO mode, the upper display selected and the correct BAND selected,,,

Key in your simplex frequecySet R-CTCS and T-CTCS to the tonesWrite the settings to an empty channel with menu 27

Thanks JohnWorking like a charm. However I've tried all that using the Chirp and it didn't work. Manually is ok.73's4X1UF
