Due to the bad weather and poor positioning of the

planets, I had not had my Astro-Physics 180EDT out

for several months. This last Saturday I took Marj (the

180EDT) out to Fremont Peak for a night under the stars

and a look at the moon and Mars.

The seeing in the early evening was about 8 of 10 and

later 6 to 7 of 10. The views of the early moon were outstanding.

I saw three rills in Petavius. If I had spent more time at the eyepiece

with Rukl's Atlas of the Moon I may have seen more. Later Mars

was great fun seeing details pop in and out with the seeing.

Nu Scorpio showed all four components as clean Airy discs.

I showed "Deimos" to a few people at the star party. It was

a nice view of the companion of Antares. ;-)

Most of the planetary viewing was with a Zeiss binoviewer,

AP barlow, and Zeiss 16mm Abbe Orthos.

I'll be out with "Marj" again this coming weekend looking at Mars.

Thanks Marj, Roland and company.

Rich was out with Marj, too. But, due to the seeing, Marj gave images that were

dancing.

Actually, Marj (an A-P180EDT) was giving great images of Mars during average

seeing at best. I always enjoy looking throught Rich's A-P180 EDT.
