Thanks Roland!

That image was taken with my AP160 at f/5.7. It was Rogelio Bernal Andreo's

idea to image this target but I first noticed the planetary nebula in the HA

data. We have been bouncing images between us (tweaking them each time) for

about a month. There are a couple alternate images, including one Hydrogen

alpha only here:

And here is another one taken by Joe Mize showing some really nice detail:

Joe's definitely got some excellent detail in that image!

Thkx Roland and Ray, appreciate your comments. The image is 10.5hrs H-aRGB

all Bin-1 with my 1995 AP155EDFS at f:7.26. See

www.cav-sfo.com/NGC2359ccd.html for the specifics.

Ray, plenty of H-a really brought in the sharpness. I went to your web site

but didn't see the exposure times you used for your H-a. I want to give

G227.1+00.5 a shot. Thkx...joe :)

Hi Joe

This is the first time I have seen your image of Thor's Helmet.

Congratulations on a deserved APOD posting. Beautiful work of art!

After our lengthy discussions back in December on getting my FTF3545 focuser

working this was the first target that I imaged. I don't know if you saw it

when originally posted but this is it for comparison:

homepage.ntlworld.com/jan.rek/Image%20Details%20Thors%20Helmet.htm

I do have an Ha filter but currently I am not able to guide when using it

so my image is LRGB only. You have shown that the Ha definitely improves the

nebulosity fine detail. What does surprise me is that it does not show any

significant extent of the nebulosity over and above that shown in the LRGB.

However, you did capture more of the green hue nebulosity probably as a

result of your extra 40 mins or so in the G channel.

My RC400 is f/8.26 so you would also have swallowed many more photons

overall than I did. However, the comparison is very interesting and if I do

have opportunity to add some Ha I will see what difference it makes to mine.

Very well done.

Thkx Jan, it's good to hear that your FTF-3545 is working well now.

Unfortunately my Thor's Helmet was 'not' accepted by APOD, that was Ray's

beautiful image. Congrats goes to Ray, getting an APOD is a major

accomplishment. Both your and Ray's Thor's Helmets captured more emission

than I did. I had gradients and may have lost some reds you both show

trying to get rid of them.

I use a Guide Scope for the very reason you mentioned, not being able to

guide through the H-a filter.

G2V calibrating my filter exposure times made a difference for color

rendition...joe :)
