An insightful comment, Alan. I must confess that, money aside,

the main reason I haven't ordered a 50th Anniversary Questar is that

I might fall into the trap of regarding it as a "collectible" to be

carefully guarded and seldom used - and it *SHOULD* be used, IMHO.

The optics demand it.



Of course, having the optics in my '98 replaced with the new

quartz optics *IS* a more cost-effective solution than selling mine

for much less than I paid and buying the 50th - and I won't have to

worry about the odd scratch or ding (although I fastidiously avoid

those as much as is humanly possible consistent with frequent &

regular observing).
