I recently (today!) purchased a 130 EDF and want to mount it, for quick set

up visual use low to medium power, on a sturdy alt-az head with appropriate

tripod.

Does anyone know if the Vixen "D" would work for this? Or does someone have

an alternate suggestion? I am not price sensitive, but I am weight,

convenience, and compactness sensitive.....

Your suggestions appreciated! Thanks.

I've used a Vixen Custom D mount for quite some time with several

different scopes. It's very simple and convenient to use because it

is not balance sensitive like many alt-az mounts. It handles up to

about 20 pounds IF the scope is short enough to concentrate the

weight right over the mount head. I tried it with my Star12ED and the

thing was wiggling like crazy. The Star12ED has most of its weight in

the lens cell and focuser with nothing in between. This resulted in

very serious oscillations every time I attempted to focus. Yet, the

Custom D handles my 100mm f/8 William Optics Fluorostar in its VERY

heavy tube without difficulty.
