Re: 900GTO vs NJP Temma

Astro Physics has notified me of my spot in line to purchase a new

900GTO has come up. I'm looking for any unbiased opinions on changing

from my current NJP Temma. I have been very happy with the Takahashi

mount but would appreciate any comments as to the pros and cons on

these two fine mounts. I've posted the same question on the Tak group

so I hope between the two sides I will get a ballanced opinion. I

currently have a Particle wave pier with the Tak adapter and use a

Robin Cassady NJP dovetail.

Thanks,

Keith

Check out this link where they measure the periodic error:

www.astrosurf.com/demeautis/ep/pe.htm

Based in this, the only real difference is the AP900 has a 35

kilogram capacity and the NJP has 30. Both mounts are outstanding.

Of course, there is a lot more to it than periodic error.

For example, the AP900 mount breaks into 2 pieces and that was

important for me. I also like the hand control/software on the

AP900, but I have not used the NJP hand control. I am sure others

will have more opinions. In any case, what a great problem to have.

Well, I've heard - but you can check for yourself, that the Tak

electronics are squirly and can go sour. Then what do you do? Back to

Japan? I would prefer knowing that the superb quality of AP service

was behind my mount.

Hi Keith,

I have owned the NJP (PD-7XY) and currently have an AP1200GTO.

IMO, PEC is an important feature if you are doing hi resolution

( .5 arcsec/pixel) work. Even though the NJP has low periodic

error, the ability to further reduce PE with tools such as PemPro

make a big difference in imaging even if you plan to use an AO-7.

The fewer corrections you need to make, the better your images will

be.

Here are the main features I think the AP900GTO has over the NJP:

1) PEC

2) Ability to park the mount

3) Goto hand controller

4) Breaks into two pieces

5) Resale value

6) 5 lb. extra capacity

Here are the main features I think the NJP has over the AP900:

1) Polar alignment scope

2) Price

Both companies (TNR for Tak) have great support and you won't go

wrong with either. But if you have the ability to get the AP900 I

would do it (sorry to others on the list (including myself)).

Hi Keith,

I responded to your question on the PWT group, but basically, having owned both mounts

(sort of) I would agree with everything that has been said here.

Good luck in your decision.
