I just got my notice today that I can send in a deposit. Been on the list since 10/1/2003 and could have the mount in springtime.

Bad news is that I bought a MI-250 this past July and am just now getting to put some time on it. Last night did a bunch of 4 minute unguided, and 1 at 10 minute unguided with perfect stars with a C9.25 at F/6. Not bad but,,, but,,, but ,,,but I always wanted a AP mount.

What to do, what to do.................................?????

I have until Jan 3rd to decide, Hmmmmmm.

Ditto ........ Bought a *used* AP900 . Since the 900 showed up I am

considerably less enthused with the other mounts that I have.

Oh ignore this fellow. What you need to do is purchase

the mount and then sell it to me for cost plus $50.

What a deal!

Dean,

Robin Casady has posted some informative and impartial comparisons of

the two mounts. Here's one:

groups.yahoo.com/group/mi-250/message/1780

It's in response to a Dean S. Is that you?

In another, very similar post he also mentioned that the fit and

finish of the AP is better. The message I referenced is a year old;

you could contact Robin to see if he has any new data. His

comparisons, of course, are not based on the new 900.

I'm a few months ahead of you on the AP900 list. I was tempted many

times by the MI but could never bring myself to give up on the AP.

Dean,

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place. As a 4 year AP1200

and within the past week a brand new AP900 owner, my bias is

automatically towards the AP mounts. So saying, I have heard from

several people that their MI mounts were nice that and there was no

reason to look elsewhere. They found the MI mount to be easy to use

and very accurate. The only real difference is in the ease with which

they come apart and the sizes of the parts. The AP900 would win on

both counts.

You could always buy the AP900 and give it a try, keeping the one you

like best and selling the other off, but if you are happy with the

MI250 why bother?

Hi Rick,

I do like the MI mount and it has very little, and smooth PE. But I am

having some problems getting the STV to guide out the RA error which is

giving me out of round stars. I am sure it is me not getting it set right

yet since I have talked with many who are very happy with theirs. Of

course I think about everyone is happy with their 900's too.

As for getting both, I'm afraid I wouldn't want to get rid of either of them

:) I also hate to lose my spot since I waited over 2 years but I would

think I could easily sell it for cost if I changed my mind.

Eric, yes that was me and I am not unhappy with the MI, it is nice, but

would I be happier with a AP? Only one way to find out I suppose..........

Thanks,

Dean

Hi all,

I've owned my AP1200GTO for 3+ years now and am very happy with it.

I have no experience with the MI250. Having said that, my

understanding is it uses the Gemini controller.

I'm an avid ACP user - which means the mount controller gets

exercised pretty significantly. Unattended operations requires the

mount controller software to be rock solid. I can attest to my AP

performing flawlessly. However, from what I've seen from other

ACP/Gemini or CCDAutoPilot/Gemini users, the controller software

isn't quite so stable under these demanding conditions.

Another data point...

Dean, I had a similar experience. Soon after getting the MI250 I came

up on the AP1200 list. I decided to get the AP and I am very happy I

did. The MI is a very nice mount, but the AP is a lot prettier! You

can sell your MI easily I imagine. I was able to. Good luck in your

decision. Mark Manner
