Re: [ap-gto] 900GTO just arrived!

I just picked up my new 900GTO from Company 7 this afternoon. I just

want to echo what others have said; this thing is a work of art! I

was surprised to feel that way, since I've seen the one that's on display

at Company 7 dozens of times; but when assembling the mount, you really

get a sense of the quality workmanship that goes into this fine

mechanicanical marvel.

In case anyone is keeping track, I did receive the polar alignment scope

that I ordered as well.

Oh, and the way this thing was packed for shipping was quite impressive,

too! It's safe even from UPS :-)

I just want to thank all those other folks that have just received their

new mounts and telescopes recently; I think that you've got the clouds

completely distracted from my place, 'cause there's not a cloud in the

sky. One hopes that the clouds aren't on the mailing list and that I've

just given myself away :-)

Can't wait for the sun to go down; this is the first clear weather we've

had here in a couple of weeks, and I hope to get a glimples of Mars

when it rises above the trees I have in the east.

Also, like Steve Reilly, I've got an Astro-pier, and the 900GTO (and

pier adapter plate) fits on like a glove; now I need to see if anyone

wants to buy the G-11 adapter for the pier that I probably won't get

much use from now the the 900GTO has arrived.

Hey Louis,

Nice to meet you in Company Seven today. Give us a Mars report (and some

about that beautiful mount). I just got back to Huntington and I am too

tuckered to go out tonight. The weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow, so

that will be my first real Mars night.

The clear skies ought to be on their way, chased along by some clouds

that rolled in.

First night/light/dew with the 900GTO went very well. Only

suprise is was that the polar alignmnet scope needed to be focused, and

when it's focused, it just barely, sorta fits back into its box.. So,

if you're not seeing Polaris, check to discover if you can see *anything*

Jeff,

Good to meet you as well.

Mars is still there :-) The seeing was pretty crummy, as I a bunch

of trees to the east, and Mars had not risen very far about them (into

the more still air) before I got tired and punted. What I saw looked

pretty promising in my Celestron 9.25" SCT. Tomorrow I may try the

A-P Star 12ED and see how that works with the marginal seeing that I've

got in that direction.

Louis,

Was there ever any doubt? VBG> I was in Richmond last night with a good

friend trying to image, clouds on and off, finally packed it in at 3 AM. I

called Martin around 5 pm yesterday and he said that two fellows had just

left with their AP900s, you must have been one of them. It is a great mount

and handles the C11 much better than I had hoped. The polar scope will ship

from C7 Mon. and should be in my hands tues. Good hunting and enjoy, you're

almost in heaven!

Steve

ps...if you find someone that needs 2 pier adapters, mine is available as

well!!
