Hi all,

I noticed that I have a small amount of DEC backlash in my mount. I had noticed some autoguiding issues in certain orientations of the mount, and after checking it visually and mechanically (grabbing the end of the scope with the clutches locked down and lightly rocking it), I can tell there's a bit of backlash there. RA seems fine.

My mount is from the 2009 run. On the AP site, I only see a doc from 2005 about adjusting the gear mesh. Is there an updated doc somewhere? If so, can someone please point me to it?

Also, I assume Roland's notes in messge #22456 still apply, and I should check those things too?

Thanks in advance.

Clear skies,

Danny

Anyone?

The main thing I'm wondering about is if it's safe to make the adjustments with a load on the mount. And, if so, if I should orient the scope in any particular direction when making the adjustment.

Thx.

Yes, it's safe to make the adjustment. You can do it with the scope

pointing to the pole.

Thank you, Rolando.

Checking the spur gear set screw seems straight forward. I'll be sure to check that when I'm at the observatory next. For the other adjustment, worm and worm wheel mesh, does it simply consist of slightly loosening the unpainted motor assembly mount screws, tapping it closer to the mount, and retightening?

I'm a little confused because the doc I saw refers to set screws on the motor housing that aren't present on my mount.

Best,

Danny

Yes, basically you loosen the motor assembly and press it into mesh with

slight finger pressure while tightening the screws.

Hi Danny and everyone!

I went ahead and posted the instructions for the spur gear set screw up

onto our Technical Support page. As you will see if you look at the

last page, it isn't qwuite finished yet, but it will work for now.

Howard,

If this adjustment is done on the RA gear, a new PEC run will be necessary

won't it?
