"Yes you are right. I turned on the mount this morning and no hum.I am suspecting it is some kind of electrical inteference."Justanother data point.I have a underground utilities. At the corner of my property there is a box with a step-down transformer. When I'm close to it, I can hear a 60 Hzhum. Sometimes, at some distance I can hear it also, but not repeat ably.Edd WeningerOvergaard AZ

Hi Edd, That is VERY interesting about the nearby utilities.transformer, so close you can feel the iron transformer buzzing through theground to your pier. I.m curious how it might be affecting your CCD camera, andwhich one do you use . Don.t know if such a massive transformer has zero RFIemission but it must have pretty good shielding.JoeFrom: Eddwen@...Sent: Tuesday, November 05, 2013 11:39 AMTo: ap-gto@yahoogroups.comSubject: [ap-gto] 60 Hz hum

Joe,I don't feel a hum through my observatory. However, I do sometimes hear it from there.I think the humcould be transferred through the ground because the box, a 33"x33"x33"cube on a concrete base, does sit on the surface. My observatory is about 100' away, but as a visual observer, I can't say it's a problem. Where I live, all the properties are large and the utilities underground, so there are boxes for about 2-3 properties. I assume they are step-down transformers to give us 220 and 110 VAC from 440.
