All,

We have contacted all people on the very old 180 EDT/EDF lists and still have eleven scopes available for delivery in October/November 2012. In order to be fair to all of the people who have expressed an interest in the 175 mm f8 StarFire EDF since its introduction at NEAIC/NEAF in April, we have decided to set up a special lottery drawing on Friday, September 21st.

We invite you to sign up for this lottery by selecting: 175mm f8 StarFire LOTTERY on our Online Product Notification Request Form.

www.astro-physics.com/webdata/notify.htm

We will close the lottery sign up process at noon Central time so that we will have time to prepare for the drawing at 2 pm. ARE YOU FEELING LUCKY???

All winners will be notified immediately at the time of the drawing. If you win this lottery, you will be offered the opportunity to purchase this limited edition instrument. The normal terms of 50% deposit to reserve the scope will apply and the deposit will be due within one week. Final payment will be due just before shipment.

We will not publish or broadcast the names of the winners in order to protect the privacy of the lucky winners. When all of the scopes have been sold, we will post an update on the notification update page on our website and make announcements in the ap-gto, ap-ug and Astromart user groups. Please do not call the office to find out if your name was selected.

Good luck, we wish you all the best!!

Clear Skies!

That's great news, thanks!

Since I signed up for a AP130 AND an AP155 over 13 years ago, and together the aperture is 185mm, can I sign up for one in addition to the lottery? :-)

Seriously, is there any way there be any consideration given for those who have been on the 155/160 list given any priority over everhone else who just jumped in-it's only 15mm difference, and I would one would have loved to have the chance to order those on the 180 list had. When I signed up, there was no 180mm list to sign up for, or I would have signed up for that, too!

But in any event, I'm thankful for at least one chance if that's the case.

Gerald,

I've been on the 155 list since 99 or 2000, I can't remember at this point. But I think at this point Marj and Roland have tried to be a fair as possible. The lists themselves were started as a "no commitment" means of expressing interest. I'd love to get one based on the old list but at this point will accept any opportunity possible to gain access. :) The good news - there will be more of these beauties available and out there under the stars. Maybe even at a star part near you Gerald. :)

I wish any and all best of luck in the lottery....my ballot is case and I will be waiting for an email from Alice next Friday. Of course every time I buy a lottery ticket for something I believe I'll win. :)

Best,

Joe

Dear Gerald,

Alas, we knew that whatever we did to offer these 175 scopes would cause a stir.

Consider this, the 180EDF and 180EDT lists existed until Sept 2001. Anyone interested in that size could have signed up until then. The current 155/160 list begins Nov 1999. So anyone who signed up on the 155 list until Aug 31 2001, could have signed up on the 180 lists, including you, since you signed up in June 2000.

If we had gone back to the 155 list from 1999, chances are that you would not have had an opportunity to obtain one of these 175s anyway since are quite a few ahead of you. All of them also had the opportunity to sign up for the 180 in 1999/2000, but didn't. How does that make it more fair?

If you signed up this time, I wish you all the best of luck.

Clear Skies!

I was not aware the 180 list was still being taken up to 2001 or I would have signed up.

Too long ago to remember for me at least.

What I was suggesting was allowing those on the 155/160 to be in one lottery and if any others are left over then new signees would be in a separate lottery for the remainder. I guess though no matter what you do someone will not be happy.

I fear that some folks not on any list may "pad" their chances with family, freinds, etc. just to flip the scope. There would be no way to stop that.

In any event, I am thankful for a chance, however small, to own one of these magnificent scopes. I guess my AP 130 has my a bit spoiled.

Regards,

Gerald

But how will you prevent a person from having any number of friends sign

up on his or her behalf, thereby stacking the deck in his or her favor?

Why not have anyone who wants to participate in the lottery be required

to provide the 50% deposit in advance of the drawing?

Yes, you can sign up as many times as you want, but we will use only

one for the lottery ;))

That's great news, thanks!

Since I signed up for a AP130 AND an AP155 over 13 years ago, and

together the

aperture is 185mm, can I sign up for one in addition to the lottery?

:-)

If you

scope will

apply and the deposit will be due within one week. Final payment will

be due

just before shipment.

Bill,

This is one huge can of worms you are proposing and especially for a

mere eleven telescopes. Fifty percent deposit translates to $10,000 ...

assuming 50 people sign up, that is $400,000 that AP collects and then

returns while keeping the balance for the actual units.

I suspect there could also be legal issues as well with such a scenario

since AP is knowingly collecting more money up front then they could

honour with widgets in return.

It really is not worth the trouble and especially for eleven units.

My point was that the 180 lists existed on the notification dropdown box on the website until late Aug 2001. It was available for anyone, including people who signed up on the 155 list at that time, to sign up for it.

Yes, you are correct. No matter what we do someone will not be happy.

Gerald

Anyone complaining about the (possible) unfairness of the EDF 175 are forgetting one very important thing. Astro-Physics Inc was founded and owned by Roland and Marj Christen.

That said, they, and only they, have the right to determine which method of selling these

remaining OTA's is the most fair and practical. They have made their decision, so now, those of you wishing to pursue purchase of this scope should place his or her name into the lottery and wait. Who knows, it might be YOU who is ultimately a very, very lucky winner.

Enough said. Bob Sinitiere, B.R. Thanks!

I'm fine with whatever Marj and Roland do. I am sure they want to be fair to everyone.

I just hope some of those entering don't try to stack the odds.

I'm happy to get a chance to own one. Prior to this my chance was a big zero. And if I don't win one, I won't be unhappy with AP-just disapointed.

At least, for a short time before next Friday I will be thinking that there is a chance, however small, that I may become the owner of a new AP175-as opposed to never having had the possibility of owning one at all!

And that's not so bad.

The lists themselves were started as a "no commitment" means of expressing interest. I'd love to get one based on the old list but at this point will accept any opportunity possible to gain access. :) The good news - there will be more of these beauties available and out there under the stars. Maybe even at a star part near you Gerald. :)

Indeed Gerald.

I hope that all those that entered are ready, willing and able to make the purchase if selected. I hope we don't get into an extend process of waiting for folks to really decide that can and are willing to pull the trigger. Then having to select another name and so on.

Best of luck to any and all. :)
