Okay, so I'm back at it again. My setup is simple:

1) My camera is connected to my laptop via USB and I inserted the autoguide cable into the mount (i.e. CP3 control panel).

2) I'm running CCDOps 5 for image acquisition.

3) My keypad is the only "software" connected to the mount. There is no TheSkyX tonight. I scrolled through the tracking rates by pressing "8" until I reach "Side".

Guess what... no tracking! (I did my Capella maneuver again.)

Can anyone tell me where to go from here?!

Thanks again,

Armand

P.S. Does the ASCOM Driver (which I see running) have anything to do with it?

Alright...

It seems to be working now! I asked myself: "Why on earth would the ASCOM driver be running if I only had the keypad connected?" I then thought about the autoguide cable which is the only source for the CP3 to talk to my laptop... so I unplugged it, and tracking seems to work! Let's see how this goes...

How could the ASCOM driver be running if you have no software connected to the mount? The ASCOM driver doesn't run until

you connect to the mount through an ASCOM client application -- and the keypad ain't that!

The cable has nothing to do with the ASCOM driver. But connecting a bad autoguider cable or one that's not connected to

a running camera can cause tracking to stop.

Thanks Ray, now I know that autoguide cables can be the culprits when it comes to tracking. I guess my cable is defective or the pins aren't arranged as required... Nonetheless, I'm now taking my first ever exposures with an AP mount; 10 minutes unguided at that! Beats the Celestron CGEM! Less wind would help, but hey...!
