Re: 16" SCT: rings or dovetail...

I asked some time ago whether or not a Losmandy dovetail and the

DOVELM16 would be sufficient for visual use of a 16" SCT on an

AP1200GTO. I can't remember whether or not I got any responses at the

time, but having gone that direction, I'm now able to offer my own

answer:

No.

A couple of caveats: I've also got a Tak FC-100 riding piggyback,

bringing the total weight over 100 lbs. And if you don't use GoTo, then

the setup is fine (the lack of rigidity is not a problem with dampening

times), or if you use something like TPoint, then you'd probably be fine

as well. But the dovetail has too much flex to get good GoTos out of

the handbox.

(Now, if I could just get someone to offer some advice on the "Parallax

10" Classical Cassegrain on an AP600EGTO" question, it might save me

from another mistake. g>)

Cheers,

-- Jeff.
