15 - 18 volts is good.

I'm ordering a Kendrick power distribution box for my new AP1100 system. One of the options is to build in a 15V power supply with an XLR connector and compatible power cable. I believe I read that AP mounts operated optimally on 15v power, was wondering what the benefits are in spending the extra bucks for 15v capability?

Thanks! Wayne

Rolando,

I have one of those power bricks for an IBM laptop and which isaround 16 volts (I must check upstairs). Is this not an overloadand especially during summer? I think you had expressed someapprehension about such voltage (during the summer) about a coupleof years ago.

Load is a function of the current drawn by the system. We have tested the CP3 up to 24 volts, but this would be the absolute highest limit, which I would not recommend to use. 18 volts is just fine, summer or winter.

What about the other way - performance under lower voltages between say 12-13 v?

I use 15v all the time on my 1600 with encoders.

Is the encoder box good up to that voltage too?

It works down there also, but anything under 12 volts may impact the slew speeds. In winter a 12 volt battery does not work very well, and the mount will draw a lot of current during a slew, which tends to drop the battery voltage below 12.
