"At very high powers you may be able to see vibrations with a stepper

motor drive if the telescope is light weight (SCT or other light

weight Cassegrains).

It probably won't be visible in any astrophotos."

Roland,

My primary interest is high power visual observation of low contrast

planetary detail. Does the above assesment apply to the current

1200GTO RA. drive? Would a synchorus motor drive, such as those once

made by Mr. Byers, exhibit inherently less vibration?

No, the above applies to a stepper drive. We have not used stepper drives for

any of the GTO series. They are servomotors.
