Hi, looking for cases for a 1100 mount. I do not have it in my hands yet, what is thesmallest "box" each of the 2 parts of the mount fit into length x width x height?if the RA was sitting on the base and the DEC was laying on the coupling say.AP doesn't show dimensions and George suggested trying the members here.It doesn't have to be perfect measurement just close,Thanks! Richard

I recently measured my 1100 for the same purpose.

The outer dimensions on the declination axis are (about) 10. x8. x9.. The RA axis, set to zero degrees, so it.s most compact, is (about) 10. x 10. x 13.. These measurements are approximate because I was just trying to figure out the minimum interior dimensions of a case for each half.

I.ll add that I did some searching for quality cases of these dimensions. What I found out is that for good quality cases, I.d spend as more or more than a ScopeGuard case that is custom made for the mount. So I.ll probably end of getting the ScopeGuard cases for both my 1100 and 1600 mounts, since I do travel with each of them.

I hope that this helps,

-Wade

PS: If anyone is curious, the 1600 declination axis was about 14. x 11. x 12.. And the RA axis was about 12. x 14. x 17.. Again, this was with the RA axis at zero degrees.

Hi Richard,

I used the Astro-physics pier dimension calculator

www.astro-physics.com/index.htm?products/mounts/1100gto/1100gto

I then bought a Pelican 1637 case. I am portable and wanted the mount to fit in the case as one unit. It.s a little heavy but with the wheels it.s not too bad.

You could get away with a smaller case I.ve seen on some forums cases such as the 1605 or 1607 with the head split in two.

I have the internal foam. Not as good as the AP foam but it works.

Regards,

Matt

I bought a set of AP900 cases on Astromart for $250. They fit the 1100 just fine, at 0 degrees.
