I don't seem to be able to adjust the DEC backlash out of the 1100GTO at the Mauna Kea VIS.If the procedure in the manual doesn't seem to work, what do I do next? The 1100 at the VIS is hauling a C14, just FWIW.

Call George and he can advise you on the adjustment. Assuming that nobody up there has made any adjustments to the spring settings on the motor box, it should be easy to just loosen and tighten the two bottom screws on the motor box. Roland  -----Original Message-----

Did you check the worm bearings? They may have some slop in them.

It's possible.  I'll call AP tomorrow. There are a lot of chefs up at the VIS and these mounts are drivenhard every night.  Christopher EricksonConsultingEngineerSummit KineticsWaikoloa, HI96738www.summitkinetics.com

I know. I was there a couple of years ago.

I did the manual's recommended procedure where you loosen the bottombolts and set the mount slewing at 64x from Park 3.  There wasn't anydifference to the backlash after completing the process. Is it possible that the weight of a C14 and/or any dec axis imbalancecould make the process more problematic? The time zone differences between HI and IL are making it challengingto call during business hours.

Set the mount to Park 3. Don't slew the mount. Just loosen and tighten the two bolts while pushing the gearbox down into mesh.  Send me an e-mail directly and we can work that way. Going thru the usergroup doesn't always work with George since he does not always go on to read the posts. Anyway, try the above and let me know the results. I think I know what is happening, and we can solve it easily. Roland  -----Original Message-----
