I have noticed that occasionally concentric blue rings may appear,

expand, then contract around some planes.



What do those rings mean ?

Normally means that the aircraft has changed it's squawk.If it remains then

you will see it's squawking 7700.

I thought the dark blue lines appeared when the aircraft was asked by ATC to squawk "ident".



Agree about the 7700 squawk.
