Under chart settings - labels, the background is set to white,

with local set to red and shared set to black.

I have noted that the white background partially overlaps the text

making the text partially illegible.

Would it be possible that this can be amended in further updates of

this outstanding piece of software.

Kind regards.

Steve,

I don't experience that problem.

Could it be your screen settings?

Hi Steve

Not sure what you mean about the white background. You can turn text background on and off; you can adjust the size of the aircraft symbol; you can adjust the size of the labels (all in Options..Chart..Options); you can pull the labels away from the aircraft symbol (shift-left-click drag). Between all of those, I am sure you can make it legible.

Try reducing the font size, or dispensing with the background if you don't want to reduce the font size.

I use size 8 with a white background, and I have no problem with overlapping text.

If you use, for example, size 10 with a background, the lines of text do overlap *very slightly* (by about 3 or 4 pixel widths I reckon)

Well, they do on my laptop, anyway :)

If you don't use a background, there's no problem with a size 10 font, or a 12 for that matter

Does that make sense?

I have just tried it with all 9 fields showing and text size of both 7 and

9. Again no problems.

Hi Ray,

It doesn't matter weather the text size is large or

small, the result is the same.

Here is the explanation.

In order to minimise the area of the chart covered by labels, PlanePlotter measures the size of the actual content of each label and spaces labels vertically at such a pitch that they do not overlap.

If you enable the background option, the background rectangle is generated by the system. Unfortunately, the system makes allowance for possible decenders (g,j,p,q,y) although the labels never contain any lower case letters. PP, knowing that the label contains no descenders, puts the labels closer together than the size of the background rectangle that the system paints. A small part of the successive lines are therefore obscured by the background, when you enable it.

I suspect that the overwhelming majority of people do not use the background option on the labels, so to increase the spacing to accommodate those users that do, would make less efficient use of the chart space for most people.

I would urge you to consider disabling the label background. The option is in Options..Chart..Options. You can choose a label colour that makes a nice contrast with your chart or outline background. If the label happens to overlay some chart detail or some other label, you can pull it away with shift-click and drag. It has the important advantage that if two labels precisely coincide, you will be aware of it if you disable the label background and not if you don't.

Agreed, Bev. A pity there isn't either a spacing or an upper-case only

option for text output.

Thanks for the feed back.

So i'm in the minority eh !

I will just have to strain my eyes more to read the info !

Have now tried other options which makes it worse with

the charts i use.

Raymondo, would you be so kind as to send me a copy of the

chart you made a screen grab of, since you do not have the same problem

as I, maybe that my cure my problem.

Regards.

Steve,

I use the Noni maps and OSM, both of which work ok with the labels on a

black background.

NoniMapView is downloadable from

aeguerre.free.fr/Public/Windows/NoniMapView/EN/

and select the exe file (third one down).

If you need help then pm me and we'll talk over the phone.
