This is a message I posted to the newsgroup comp.os.os2.networking.tcp-ip. I don't know where the problem is with this one: OS/2 or MVS, but I will appreciate any help.... Hi Net, Well, it is an odd problem, but perhaps others have seen it.....actually, I can't even be sure it is an OS/2 problem, but .... well... I am using OS/2 2.1, IBM's TCP/IP 2.0 Using TN3270 or PMANT I can telnet to our mainframe with no problem. I go to the MVS side of the house (this doesn't happen on the CMS side), and attempt to open an ftp connection back to my desktop machine. The login goes fine (user and password stuff), then blows up (I didn't know ftp on MVS used VS Pascal)...if I reboot as a DOS machine, using CUTCP, everything is fine. Of course, I can telnet to any of our Unix boxes and ftp all day with no problems, no matter what os is running on the desktop. As an extra bonus, though, when on MVS with TN3270 or PMANT I have the same problems when attempting to have MVS make an ftp connection to our ancient CDC CYBER (NOS)...no problems from a 327x or when I am using CUTCP. I suspect something in the MVS ftp package _really_ doesn't like something in TN3270 or PMANT ....I would appreciate any thoughts the net might have on this - thanks in advance, -- Joe Kelley University Computing Int: jkelley@uga.cc.uga.edu University of Georgia Bit: jkelley@uga Athens, GA

(IBM's TCPIP 2.0.0 for OS/2 too, TCPIP 2.1 for MVS, MVS/ESA 4.2). Seems to be a general bug: FTP connections inside PMANT TSO sessions to HP-UX, SUN-OS and also AIX fail. I saw this bug first time after customizing the colours of PMANT. (yeah, it's not reasonable..., maybe i'm wrong and didn't test it before changing the colours of PMANT) But i'm nearly sure this bug wasn't implemented in TCPIP 1.2.1. for OS/2. > -- Joe Kelley > University Computing Int: jkelley@uga.cc.uga.edu > University of Georgia Bit: jkelley@uga > Athens, GA -- Erik Weber, rz73@dkauni2.bitnet

Well, what seemed strange at first gets stranger ..... I first asked about any problems with using FTP on MVS when using either TN3270 or PMANT on sn OS/2 machine. (OS/2 2.1, IBM's TCP/IP 2.0). I cannot FTP to any other machine....back to the OS/2 box on my desktop, to our CDC Cyber (running NOS), to either a Sun or RS/6000. I've tested further; I can get to the CMS system but _not_ to MVS (I have several ids) !!!!!! Failure occurs immediately after the password is sent. I am inclined to believe the problem is with MVS, though it may be with the TCPIP package (presumably both TN3270 and PMANT share code).... As before, any comments or suggestions will be gratefully accepted. -- Joe Kelley
